to another dimension, we have to honestly see what we need to see in this one:
IRAQ
so we know, some of us Anglos and European-Amerikans who care, what we did to the ancient indigenous peoples here.
what about where we left Iraqis, after the invasion of 2003-2011?
End of U.S. troops occasions minor reflection on war & destruction
The withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq has spurred little new information on the scale of destruction in the 8 year, 8 month war. Professor Juan Cole had this to say:
The American public still for the most part has no idea what the United States did to that country, and until we Americans take responsibility for the harm we do others with our perpetual wars, we can never recover from our war sickness, which drives us to resort to violence in international affairs in a way no other democracy routinely does.
Population of Iraq: 30 million.
Number of Iraqis killed in attacks in November 2011: 187
Average monthly civilian deaths in Afghanistan War, first half of 2011: 243

Percentage of Iraqis who live in slum conditions in 2011: 50
Number of the 30 million Iraqis living below the poverty line: 7 million.
Number of Iraqis who died of violence 2003-2011: 150,000 to 400,000.
Orphans in Iraq: 4.5 million.
Orphans living in the streets: 600,000.
Number of women, mainly widows, who are primary breadwinners in family: 2 million.
Iraqi refugees displaced by the American war to Syria: 1 million
Internally displaced persons in Iraq: 1.3 million
Proportion of displaced persons who have returned home since 2008: 1/8

Lookin' through to the other side
lookin' through to the other side
i'm aware
that there are infinite dimensions
infinite looks
infinite ways of knowing
i settled for too few
in this go'round
but we go on forever, she said
so i'm exploring that one
all the time now
peace
is
necessary
to
Think.

It's A Wrap: The Russell Means Show and I
What Russ and I did was pure Theatre
the Earth our Stage
a tale told by two idioms,
full of sound, silence, fury, flash, emptiness, trickery, rage, always the rages until the Peace.....Forever Now
signifying everything
that two such clowns can teach
a story of bros and hos and pros and cons
and a guy too dumb to be anything but real
play it Real
right or wrong
play it Real
"ragged but real" sometimes
Real Smooth at others...
that was me...
Russell loved me....and I loved him....and love him still
The way Real Men love
each of us Real in our own way....i guess....
He played his part for fame and money
I played it straight, just me and free
He played the Trickster,
I played me and tricked him sometimes
just to show him i could
if i tried
Many people knew Russ but didn't know him
I knew him...
as men who know each other deep know
like my dad, he was conflicted enedlessly except
when i clarified their thinking
by bein' me with them
and sometimes they didn't like it
in the end they were both afraid
of what i had shown them about themselves
and their inabilities to control....
me....
but, ah, the tales of the covenant between us
these tales they used to tell
"your keen analytical mind", said Russ, matter-of-factly
"encyclopedia brain,", snarled my dad......
had 'em both fooled, i guess
Together we did a psychodrama real...
the Meeting, the plan to make him the world's most famous Indian "for the People", the March, YTC, the Riot-Helmets, Fools Crow, Matthew "Noble RedMan" King, Kenny Kane/King, the Blood Ceremony, un-Thanksgiving, Alcatraz, Greasy Grass, Austin Two Moon, the Bellecourts, Dennis Banks, Bella Stumbo and the LA TIMES magazine, the NoShitPants Glaring, the Disguise on Pismo Pier, the Covenant to Act it out, the Retirement from AIM, the dinner, "it's all about Tatanka", the Triangle, Window Rock, Bear Butte, Tehachapi, Bakersfield, Washington State, the Betrayal, Mary, the RagTeachings, "Do you know what your father told me?', the "godfather" pipe and controversy, the many conversations, the Plagiarisms, the Sextalk, Sue in Grass Valley, the Crazy years, the Autonomous AIM roster, the Italian Payoff Scam, the "should i be packin'?" scare, the car hustle, hustlin' the Libertarians, Larry Flynt, the NSA, the Moonies, the Homes & Lifestyles Scam, the Grass Valley Rally and PipeSmoke with the Cowboy, the Drives, the Relatives, Pearl Street, Autobiography, Marvin Wolf, the Agreement, the Breakup....stuff i don't recall......all those memories and makeups and omissions in "Where White Men Fear To Tread".....first effort by the Savage Tribe...working title "The Nine Lives of Russell Means", the Facebook Friendship years, Charlie Smoke, AIM, Black Magic Women, college girls, stuff that shouldn't be said, except in a movie...Psychological Terrorism, discussions of things not known to anyone else, Inipi times.....learning the via negativa....doing what he said and shocking him (if an elder admires....), so many things......the Cancer....the Recovery....the Farewell...
all part of the psychodrama
Russell Means and I --pure Theatre--he for whatever he did it for, me bein' me....
it came together like a crucifixion, the pulling together of opposites, two idioms alive and recognizing sign language and aura and thinking alike about so many things, coming at it from different angles, melding every time we were together
for the Earth and the Generations
agreeing on the principle.."all news is good news".....some of it now so documented and signed off on that nobody can alter it....
a serendipitous play, Real Man foiling off of The Actor, for the Earth and the Generations,
becoming one
one for the money, two for the show
It's a wrap.
This Intentional Tale we told (he told others with others, but this was ours...his and mine)....
that's having a happy ending, they way i view it in its final cut....
for the Earth and the Generations....

Dripstone
Monday Morning
i go places
places go me
people do me
with my permission
last night a place goed me
i woke up where i am
but i was somewhere else last night
they came and got me again
the Seizers.
and John T took me to the brink
and said, "You have to give this a try"
but i could not take that leap
and wondered if he saw me creep
back to the cave where the children who can't make it
live
in one of the
caverns
nothing grows from the top down
except stalactites

Moments Sunday evening
Moments Sunday evening
Just had to turn the sounds off
and cruise to backandforth
some good times
moments sunday evenings gone
but the smell and the feel is back
the sound of it's over
relief
no pressure
some fun
best time in a frenetic week of
passions submerged and iced over
by rigid rigids
and frigid frigids
programmed emotions.
some
moments sunday evening
when we were just together
and sis and i were the popcorn poppers
and dad would make rootbeer floats
some sunday evenings
after the last god-deal
we were relaxed and human
and life was good for a few
moments
sometimes
sunday evening.......
it's all good now
so what's this sudden poignant pain?
how the hell would i know?
i'm only 68
